Aeronautica Windpower is a manufacturing and marketing company that builds and markets mid-scale commercial and industrial (225 to 750 Kw) wind turbines.

New Turbines to be made in the USA! Beginning in the fall of 2010 we will begin shipping our new 225 and 750 kW turbines that are now manufactured in the United States. The result will be shorter shipping times and costs in North America for American-manufactured turbines, combined with a Danish turbine design that has been proven around the world since the 1980's.

Our 'Queen-Size' machines are larger and much more cost effective than residential-scale turbines, but smaller than the multi-megawatt 'King-Size' turbines used in large, expansive wind farms. They are the perfect size for supplying clean electricity to farms, ranches, industrial parks, commercial complexes and small neighborhoods, or smaller wind 'parks' of between 2 and 5 Megawatts in size.

We sell to both end users and the wind energy industry. Through our network of professional contacts, we can assist with a full range of engineering, feasibility and support services in order to provide turnkey projects where needed. If you have the land and the wind, we can supply everything else you want.

Our R&D efforts in power train and blade technologies are at the cutting edge of wind power technology, helping to insure our long term growth in this exploding market.

Brian D. Kuhn
(VP of Development, Co-Founder)

Mr. Kuhn’s responsibilities at Aeronautica currently include all new business and product development efforts.  He works with various Wind Working Groups around the country to promote Community Wind projects and is instrumental in providing technical expertise to dealers, customers and affiliates of AW.

Brian holds a Bachelor of Science degree in ‘Renewable Energy Systems and Business’, from the University of Massachusetts, in Amherst, MA (’77). This special (BDIC) degree was a 4 year mix of Mechanical Engineering and Business studies. During his time at UMass he studied under Professor William Heronemus, a noted naval architect and world renowned primary investigator for off-shore wind systems. He was a member of a small team of engineers that designed and built the first UMass Solar Habitat and Wind Furnace for the Department of Energy. This wind turbine introduced many innovations, including the use of a 3 bladed, variable pitch rotor and the use of a monopole tower – features that are now standard in today’s modern wind turbine designs. The Wind Furnace turbine is currently heading to a new home at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington.  The wind turbine and solar habitat later went on to become the highly respected Renewable Energy Research Laboratory at UMass.

Mr. Kuhn offers the perspective of over 30 years of product and service development in the fields of Energy, Real Estate and general marketing. He currently teaches Wind Power and Solar Energy courses at Cape Cod Community College in Barnstable, MA. As National Solar Specialist for Rheem Manufacturing in the early ‘80s, Brian taught hundreds of distributors and dealers across the country how to design and install solar hot water systems.  He has had several articles published about solar and wind power. He is a member of the National Association of Home Builders and the Northeast Sustainable Energy Association. He is also a past member of the National Association of Realtors, and is licensed as a real estate broker involved in land procurement and development projects across the Northeast, previously licensed as a professional broker in 8 states.

In his hometown of Plymouth, MA, Mr. Kuhn has served as Chairman for the Plymouth Energy Committee (PEC), a volunteer advisory group which reports to the Board of Selectmen.  He is the principal author of ‘Plymouth 2020’, a plan which calls for virtually all of Plymouth’s Municipal electricity to be produced by renewable sources in time for the town’s 400th anniversary.

Tim Stearns
(VP Operations and Manufacturing)

Mr. Stearns directs the day-to-day operations of Aeronautica and synchronizes the relationships between AW and our manufacturing and license partners. Tim provides over twenty five years of leadership and entrepreneurial experience in corporate logistics and supply chain operations, overseeing all operations and vendor relationships in the supply chain. Mr. Stearns is integrally involved with licensee relationships, and procurement operations for all components and sub-components. Mr. Stearns brings his expertise of logistics, plant and fleet operations to our company from several previous clients. His success is due to his keen ability to understand the needs of both customers and vendors, whether domestic or international, and bring them together on profitable common ground.

Tim began his entrepreneurial business career directly out of college (BSBA, Thomas College) as Vice President and co-owner of a logistics firm in New England. In this position, Tim worked extensively with bidding, negotiating and closing US Government contracts for the transportation and warehousing of US Navy supplies. Tim developed strategic policy and processes to comply with contractual demands due to the high security and time sensitive nature of the Navy supply chain. He was responsible for the development and implementation of operational policy to ensure the highest quality, post-sale service to retail customers. These policies are designed for optimal budgetary efficiencies, and replace expensive, inefficient systems.

During his twenty plus years in the logistics industry, Tim has worked closely with the National and the New England Motor Freight Bureaus on freight tariffs. He was a member of the ATA and the Short Haul Carriers association.
